HEY! I WANTED TO SHARE A COOL STORY ABOUT THIS MORNING’S “SEE YOU AT THE POLE” AT LONGFELLOW MIDDLE SCHOOL!
First, I slept in today. It was a total accident! I was supposed to get up early for 5am prayer. I remember hearing the alarm clock and I remember turning it off. I don’t remember going back to sleep though. I woke up later on…at 7:58am actually. The first thing I thought about when I woke up was, “I have to be at work at 8am!!” Then I thought about See You At The Pole! I thought for sure I was late but I got ready and headed out the door to Longfellow Middle School. I drove up to the second parking lot of the school so that I could see from a distance if anyone was praying. (I showed up at the school last year and no one was there.) I knew I was going to get out and pray and I wanted someone to take a picture of me at the flag pole praying for the school. When I looked over at the flag pole, I saw this guy…
His name is Marcus. He is 13 and in 8th grade. When I saw him, he was just sitting at the base of the flag pole with his school bags between his legs. And it looked like he was looking down at his school bags. I was like, “Maybe I can get him to take a picture of me praying next to the flag pole.” So I walked up to him. The flags weren’t up yet and I didn’t remember anyone hanging flags last year. I thought, “Maybe there’s another pole.”
I asked him, “Hey is this the flag pole?”
He looked up at me and said, “Yes.”
I asked him, “Are you praying?”
He nodded yes.
We started talking. He was kind of a shy guy so I was telling him about the church, asking questions, etc. He did tell me that this was his first year doing See You At The Pole. While we were talking, some kids finally came to hang the flags. We planned to start our praying after they were done hanging the flags because they were talking and what not not. They were taking a while so finally I was like, “Man, we should just start praying.” Then he told me that he was praying for someone to come join him right before I walked up. Cool right? Anyway, we started praying. I started it off. Then I noticed that he would throw in a sentence here and there. “I pray for the school and the teachers.” “I pray for my friend who has family in New York were the tsunami was.” Finally, I stopped praying to give him some time to pray whatever was on his heart. He didn’t say anything though. Then he was like, “We’re reaching out by being here but we need to really reach out.” (Same shy kid mind you.) Then he invited a friend who got dropped off. The friend said that he couldn’t stay because he had to talk to his coach. I asked him if that was one of his friends. He was yeah. Then he said, “I don’t really know anybody here except 8th graders”. Then he invited this random guy to come pray. Then he invited another girl. So now there’s 4 of us there. Marcus and I pretty much explained what we were doing. You could tell that the two kids Marcus invited didn’t know what was going on. Then the girl Marcus invited asked 2 of her friends who got dropped off to come. Then the guy Marcus invited called a friend over who just got dropped off. Then the first girl invited another friend. So there was 8 of us around the flag pole! Class was about to start in about 5 mins so I encouraged someone to pray. Since most of the kids were unbelievers, the first girl who Marcus invited said, “Since this was Marcus’ idea I think he should pray.” Then Marcus was like, “I’ll pray. But don’t correct me if I mess up.” So Marcus prayed! Then they all went to class.
Most of those students weren’t born again. I asked to take their picture and some of them started acting shy and hiding behind each other. (They ain’t about that #SocialSuicide LOL!) I got a picture of some of them though.
BE ENCOURAGED TO STAND FOR CHRIST! YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ALL CRAZY WITH THE BOLDNESS AT THE BEGINNING. JUST TAKE A STAND! GOD CAN AND WILL USE EVEN THE SMALLEST ACT OF OBEDIENCE. EIGHT PEOPLE TODAY WAS EIGHT MORE PEOPLE THAN THERE WERE LAST YEAR. GOD CAN USE YOU!
